Character Role Analysis
Grandma Lausch and Einhorn
Augie likes to do his own thing, but that doesn't mean he won't accept or seek advice. In his childhood, the family's boarder, Grandma Lausch, teaches Augie about the ways of the world. She's more of a parental figure than his mother.
In his young adult life, Augie occasionally goes to Einhorn, a onetime boss he reveres and respects. Einhorn doesn't stay in the role, however. He's not nearly as family-oriented as Augie and becomes exceedingly wrapped up in his own problems. Even early on Augie doesn't always take his advice, but as time goes by Augie ceases to value many of the recommendations Eihorn makes.
