Character Analysis
The gypsy woman only appears for a few paragraphs in the book, but she certainly makes it worth her while. All she does is interpret Santiago's straightforward dream about buried treasure at the pyramids, telling him that he will find buried treasure at the pyramids. Duh. Oh, and did we mention that she charged him 1/10 of whatever treasure he finds there? Smart lady.
The gypsy woman fits into the novel as a whole by giving Santiago a little push, helping him to believe in his dreams. She also shows him that it's going to cost him to reach the treasure, which he learns over and over again on the road. So, yeah. Still not too helpful. Seriously, what is it with the women in this book?
