Bertie

Bertie is the main character of this story because he's the guy with the main conflict and he's the guy we're hoping will triumph over adversity. Oh yeah—he also becomes the King of England.

And by the end of the movie, Bertie has triumphed over his setbacks. But it doesn't come easy. It takes a lot of hard work with his mentor Lionel, and a lot of dealing with some pretty hairy childhood trauma.

Now many people wouldn't think of becoming king as a setback, but for someone with a stutter like Bertie, he's not super interested in becoming king if it means giving a bunch of speeches and showing his stutter to the whole world. Don't fear though. Like any great (non-tragic) protagonist, Bertie digs deep and finds the courage to face his fears head on.
