- Gutman says that Thursby was Brigid's ally, so shooting him would convince Brigid to tell them the whereabouts of the Falcon.
- Wilmer plugged him.
- Spade wants to know what happened to Captain Jacoby?
- Gutman says they remembered Brigid being allied with Jacoby, and they feared she would give him the Falcon and he would leave town with it.
- Wilmer searched the boat to find the Falcon, and "accidentally" set the boat on fire.
- They tailed Jacoby to Brigid's apartment and caught him as he was absconding with the Falcon.
- So Wilmer shot him.
- That's when they bullied Brigid and she called Spade for help.
- Wilmer wakes up, and Gutman tells him they'll be turning him over to the police. "If you lose a son, it's possible to get another. There's only one Maltese Falcon." That's cold.
- Brigid leaves to make coffee, and Gutman advises Spade to "be careful" of Brigid.
- The sun starts to rise, and Gutman asks Spade if he can get the Falcon now.
- Spade calls Effie and tells her to retrieve the Falcon from the parcel room and bring it to his place.
