The Lieutenant Timeline and Summary

The lieutenant proposes to the jefe his plan to capture the last priest by taking hostages.
He visits the home of Captain Fellows, telling the foreigner to report the priest if he's seen in the area.
With police at his command, he visits the very village where the priest is hiding—speaks to him, even, but without discovering who he is.
For the second time, the priest is present before him, now as a prisoner arrested for having brandy. He oversees the priest's night in jail and his release the next day.
Working with the mestizo, the lieutenant finally captures the priest. The two men discuss their respective worldviews as they return to the capital.
The lieutenant feels less than satisfied once the last priest is dead.
