Vindice

Vindice is definitely the protagonist. He drives the plot like it's his personal Mack truck, pushing through obstacles to accomplish his goals and leaving a lot of damage in his wake. However, he also succeeds at his plans, and pretty magnificently. Since Vindice starts out seeking revenge on behalf of his murdered fiancée, it's pretty easy to root for him. And as he becomes consumed by vengeance, it's also pretty easy to lament how far he falls.
