Character Analysis
You'd better watch yourself around the nasty Silena, who is one of the twenty Watchers of the Empire (8.159). The section of the Empire she supervises is next to Dorn's, and the space where Meena and Tilja use Axtrig is in her wheelhouse (8.159). When Silena first appears on the walls of Talagh she looks like a woman, but Tilja can't be sure because she's wrapped up in a large cloak (8.96).
Plus she doesn't have a face with normal features, and instead she has a noggin "almost as dark as the creature, a smooth, young, handsome face with no life in it at all," like a statue (8.99). As for "the creature," it's a huge, dog-like thing that's twice as big as any canine and black as night, with a fanged mouth and one eye in its head. Good times.
Silena wants power at all costs. She and the other Watchers compete to find Tilja first in order to get Axtrig's magic for themselves. Her greed, like Dorn's, extends to stalking Tilja and hunting her down at a campsite:
Still filled with dread, she straightened and looked around. Something had changed. There was a new light over towards the other side of the enclouser. It was paler and larger than the yellowish glow of the lanterns, like a patch of moonlit smoke. Tilja watched it glide slowly across to the edge of the enclosure and start back. As it turned, part of it blanked out for a moment as something dark came between it and where Tilja was sitting. The thing was also moving. (9.39)
Suffice it to say, every time she shows up Silena brings the creep factor in a pretty major way.
