• Tilja's mom goes missing. Anja and Tilja head into the forest, and Anja confesses she can hear the cedars talking. Tilja's worried that she'll lose her home one day.
• Meena decides to go to the Gathering, where they meet Tahl and Alnor and then the group goes in search of Faheel.
• Tilja and friends go undercover as citizens of the Empire. She and the others trod along the caravan paths—until they're kidnapped and meet the Ropemaker, who rescues them.
• Tilja and Co. arrive in the capital city of Talagh. Til has to fight off the Watchers—the Emperor's magical guardians—and an unknown magician. Faheel is due south, so it's back to trekking they go.
• On their way south, Tilja defeats the Watcher Silena in a magical duel. Then, after going through the City of the Dead—Goloroth—the group sails south on a raft.
• Tilja and Co. finally arrive at Faheel's island, but Alnor, Tahl, and Meena are in a deep sleep. Tilja meets Faheel, who's old but still has some mojo. After freezing time, they fly on a magical bird to Talagh, where they destroy the Watchers (and the Emperor) and rescue the Ropemaker.
• At this point, Faheel's pretty much gone—he gives Tilja his magic ring to give to the Ropemaker, and some magical grapes to Meena and Co. to eat.
• Tilja can't tell anyone about the ring; Meena and Alnor eat the grapes and turn young again.
• Tilja and Co. visit their old pals Zara and Lananeth, where Tilja saves them from an evil magician. Unfortunately she also kills their host in the process, so everyone flees.
• Tilja finally summons the Ropemaker (and Moonfist) using her magic. Moonfist captures Meena, Alnor, and Tahl, shrinks them, and burns them to a crisp. Tilja gives the Ropemaker the ring and they defeat Moony. The good magician reverses time so Tilja's family is alive.
• Tilja and Co. finally return to Woodbourne. Her dad is off at war, and the guys go join him; Tahl has a magic whip that defeats the enemy invaders, and the Valley is saved.
• Everyone returns home, and Meena and Alnor (reluctantly) reverse their age using magic.
