Character Analysis
We don't meet hotshot Daniel Landry until Tip gets to Arizona, but once she's there, he becomes important. Not only is he friends with her mom, but he's also a politician who's in charge of negotiating with the Gorg. In fact, he warns Tip to leave the consulting to him, saying:
"Gratuity, you need to trust in your leaders. I know you kids might not think that's 'cool,' but the Gorg have a lot to offer us." (3.1369)
Looks like somebody doesn't quite know who he's talking to—so even though Daniel is convinced he's right because he's an adult, it turns out that Tip actually knows what she's talking about. In the end, when Tip literally saves the world, it's Daniel who takes the credit. Tip doesn't mind, though, because she recognizes how rough it's been for him since the aliens left:
He hasn't had a moment's peace since the Gorg left. Not one. His every movement has been reported, his every word recorded, his every stumble and blockhead idea captured on film forever. (3.1575)
Hmm… kind of makes us wonder whether being in the spotlight is all it's cracked up to be. Our guess? It's not. Just look at Daniel Landry.
