The priest doesn't do much guiding, but he tries his best. He tries to comfort Mr. and Mrs. Lisbon after the successive suicide attempts and deaths of their daughters. The problem is that they are inconsolable—there's nothing he can do or say to help them with their incomprehensible grief.
