There's no doubt in our minds that Ms. Silver is the mentor extraordinaire in this book. Since she is Billy's second-grade teacher, that's one big clue right there that she's probably the mentoring type. Plus, she takes the teacher role to a whole new level. Ms. S has Billy working extra hard both in class and at home to be the best student he can be—she's even guiding him through the challenge of writing poetry, and that's a first for Billy.
