You just finished reading Thidwick and the Big-Hearted Moose to your child, and she asks you to explain what the book is about. You think about it, and the best you can come up with is, "Being kind-hearted is a sucker's game." Even in your head, the words are spoken with the voice of a sleazy, Brooklyn bookie. But this is a children's book, so that can't be right… Can it?

Hate it break it to you, but in a way, that reading is correct. Although, to be fair, there is a little more nuance to it.
