Ellie

Ellie doesn't go it alone in Tomorrow, When the War Began—her friends are major players in the plot, too—but since Ellie is the narrator and the person whose perspective we get on everything, she's ultimately the character we root for most. We don't know the inner workings of anybody but Ellie, and this intimacy helps positions her as the leading lady amongst a cast of compelling characters.
