Character Analysis
Job Anderson is the boatswain on board the ship, which means he's in charge of deck discipline. When Mr. Arrow mysteriously "disappears," Anderson takes over many of the duties of the first mate. Naturally, he is also one of the pirate leaders. When Doctor Livesey, Squire Trelawney, and Captain Smollett decide to head to shore to take possession of the abandoned fort on the island, Job Anderson is one of the group of mutineers they take by surprise and fight off. In the first organized attack by the pirates on the stockade, Job Anderson almost manages to kill Jim with his sword. Luckily, Jim slips and falls, and Abraham Gray shoots Anderson before he can finish Jim off.
