Byron's bad-boy attitude irritated some of the more, ahem, uptight British citizens—so much so, in fact, that he was refused burial in Westminster Abbey, where, as an awesome poet, he belonged. (Source.)
For such a bad boy, it is definitely strange that Byron was a politician of sorts. As a "lord," he was allowed to attend Parliament as a member of the House of Lords. (Source.)
It's kind of gross to imagine, but while Byron's body was shipped back to England after his death, his heart was buried in Missolonghi, Greece (where he died, fighting in the Greek War of Independence). (Source.)
