Character Analysis
Antoinette's Aunt Cora appears to be the one person who has Antoinette's best interests at heart. But, because she's a woman, she has only limited resources to draw on to help Antoinette. While she berates Richard and makes the very valid point that Antoinette's fortune needs to be legally protected, she can only offer Antoinette a few rings to sell just in case Antoinette gets into trouble. Like Antoinette, Aunt Cora also marries an Englishman and moves to England, but is able to move freely between Jamaica and England once her husband dies.
