Walter Hartright

Walter does double-duty in this book as the hero and the narrator. He is the driving force behind much of the action in the story, and also behind the story itself. After all, it's thanks to his efforts that the various narratives are pulled together. Aside from driving the story, Walter also has all the classic protagonist traits: he's a romantic lead, he's likable, he moonlights as an action hero (well, he runs around at least), and he fights the good fight for truth and justice.
