feb 22 Learn More Spain Cedes Florida to the United States
On this day in 1819, Spain ceded Florida to the United States. In 1845, it became the 27th state. And in 1996, it became the site of the first ATM designed specifically for Rollerbladers. Located in Miami and created primarily because banks hate Rollerbladers, the cash machine featured a ramp so Rollerbladers could zoom right up and make a withdrawal without having to do that awkward thing where you clack up and down a set of stairs sideways in your skates.
