If you want to paint a picture with your words and really tell a story so that your reader

Think of it this way:

If you're telling a story about a man and you don't include any details, well then that's

all he is to the reader: just a man. No matter who or what you're imagining in your head, if you

However, once you start adding those precious details, then that man stops just being any

Every time your story takes place in a specific setting, don't just say what the setting is,

describe the details of the setting.

Instead of saying “a farm,” you could say, “a farmhouse sat atop a grassy hill

that was littered with a horde of grazing cows."

And if there's a farmer, describing that farmer as more than just any old farmer will [Girl thinking about a farmer]
