Odds of Hanging On

Odds of Hanging On

Pretty good. Keep up with current research, literature on computer science, innovations, and technology advances, plus conduct your own research when possible, of course, and there really isn't any reason you shouldn't be able to stay employed somewhere.  If you find you're not wild about corporate employment, the software development world is pretty open to home-based developers.

Computers themselves, the hardware and software, have hard rules and parameters. They're only capable of certain activities and function in certain ways. Computer science, on the other hand, deals with the theory of what's possible. Creativity is a must.

To be successful, you can't be too hampered by what's current. If you're able to see past current paradigms and imagine new capabilities, there's no real limit to what you can discover and bring to the world.
