Power
Eh, it depends. The Googlers and other major technology figures have a lot of influence these days. Heck, some even serve on government committees and as Presidential advisers, in whatever spare time they have when not running a multi-billion dollar, international corporation. And Google knows everything about everything and everyone, so you could argue that gives them power, but there's only one of them. Your average researcher doesn't really score high on the power scale.
