Fame
The quickest route to fame? Another World War. The biggest names in the biz, mostly German U-boat commanders, hail from World War I and II. Since the end of WWII, however, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of name recognition for submarine commanders. It’s like people would rather read about the newest twerking celebrity than the person in charge of earth-destroying weapons. Weird, huh?
…But that’s kind of the point. Anyone who wants to become really famous but then decides to work in an office that goes underwater for months at a time needs some serious help. Sure, the occasional career military man might start screaming your name and ask you to autograph their baby, but without that fancy uniform you’ll be just another ordinary person in public.
