The Color of Magic Close to the Edge / Chapter 2 Summary

How It All Goes Down

  • We find our heroes—well, the two guys we're following at any rate—bailing water from their ship.
  • Seems Rincewind and Twoflower have had a few adventures since "The Lure of the Wyrm," including a trip to the Hub, a stint on the Dehydrated Ocean, and an encounter with some slavers.
  • During their bailing, both men realize there is less horizon than there should be, and Rincewind notes that's because of the Rimfall—in other words, the current is carrying them off the edge of the world.
  • They sail toward the edge of the world, and Rincewind notices a host of sealife caught in the tide, swimming desperately just to stay in place.
  • Using an oar, he helps a frog to the safety of the boat. It bites him for the effort, and he puts it in his pocket.
  • As they approach the literal end of the world, their ship crashes into something and a wave cascades over the deck.
  • Rincewind starts drowning.
