Odds of Getting In
Freshman walk-on, GPA: 3.0
Wait, what's an ergometer? At least you know what a scull is…maybe? So you're not exactly Division I material yet, but you can still have fun with rowing and get a great workout at the same time.
Competed in erg sprints, little on-water experience, GPA: 2.5
You have a little experience and your coach thinks you could be competitive…if you can shave ten or twelve seconds from your ergs. Unfortunately, your GPA isn't that great and Coach is worried that your academics could pose a problem.
On crew throughout high school, decent race experience, GPA: 2.7
You're not bad, but not great. You could be a little faster and your coach consistently comments on your technique…in a bad way. Whatever, at least you're strong. Like, really strong.
Multiple small regattas wins, championship finalist, GPA: 3.0
You come from a successful team with a fairly rigorous training program and your academic record is decent. Your erg times and racing record have generated some interest, but the rest of the potentials for your dream school are just as qualified. Don't slack off now.
Multiple junior championship wins, U.S. Rowing development camp attendee, GPA: 3.5
Your teammates think you're a demi-god. You know more about the specifications of your ergometer than you do about your significant other, and your coach is starting to warn you about making the others look bad. Are you even human?
