The year 2015 marks only the fourth official season of NCAA sand volleyball. As an emerging sport, the spotlight on sand volleyball is still pretty tiny.

Some schools might bring a media member to film at a match and then show highlights on the school website, so you at least have that. For the most part, there's very little media coverage for sand volleyball. Unless you're a parent, friend, relative, alumnus, or the school mascot, you're probably not going to know a whole lot about what's going on in the world of collegiate sand volleyball. It's possible that many students aren't even aware that their school has a sand team. #sandvolleylyfe

Also, unlike indoor volleyball, there's no NCAA national championship…but all that could change soon (source).

If you're lucky enough to become a pro sand volleyball player—and spoiler alert: chances are, you won't—it will be then, and only then, that you might receive significant press coverage. ESPN might broadcast certain AVP events throughout the year, and every four years when the Summer Olympics roll around, beach volleyball is always one of the highest-rated events.

If you've ever tuned in, you've probably seen Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh-Jennings dominate the competition. It must be the hyphenated last names.
