Men's vs. Women's
Women's NCAA volleyball is a much bigger deal than its male counterpart. Basically, women's volleyball is Beyoncé, and men's volleyball is Solange.
Harsh, we know.
Just look at the numbers. In 2014, there were 334 D-I women's teams, versus only 23 men's teams. This leads to a disparity between scholarship money, as well: although each offers roughly the same amount per athlete, D-I schools can offer up to 12 scholarships for women, but only 4.5 for men (source).
This reality doesn't change as you move down the divisions, either—there are an additional 1,340 women's volleyball programs in the country between D-II, D-III, NAIA, and junior college, and only 88 for men (source). While men's volleyball is currently on the upswing, it's still significantly outshined by the women's sport.
And who said this is a man's world?
