• Kate and Miss Simpkins arrive late on the Aurora via ornithopter. Nothing like a grand entrance.
• Matt gives Kate the tour of the ship, and she asks a ton of questions about their path of travel.
• She tells Matt why she cares: she's trying to prove that the creatures her grandfather saw are real. Oh yeah, her grandfather was the guy Matt rescued a few months ago.
• She arranges a midnight meeting with Matt over hot cocoa, and asks him to help her by telling her when they'll be closest to where her grandfather was rescued.
• The whole ship-gets-raided-by-pirates thing happens.
• After they crash-land on the island, Kate shows Matt and Bruce where she's already located fresh water; she tells Matt she's pretty sure this is her grandfather's island.
• Kate goes into the forest to find proof of the creatures and convinces Matt to join her. They get pooped on by a lot of birds, chased by a little red jumping snake, and climb a tree where they discover the bones of a cloud cat.
• Kate talks Matt into another expedition—after all, the snake wasn't poisonous.
• They go into the woods and meticulously label, photograph, and pack the bones in underwear to carry back to the ship.
• They see the living creature but it runs off; Kate's super bummed she didn't get a photograph.
• They get stuck in a nasty storm and hide in a hydrium cave.
• Kate gets locked into her stateroom by Miss Simpkins to protect her from the dastardly intentions of Matt.
• Kate drugs Miss Simpkins and escapes into the jungle to find her cloud cat.
• She's found in a tree by Matt and Bruce, and she won't leave until they let her carry out her plan to get a good photograph.
• After running from the cat—who is unfortunately startled by her camera—Kate and Matt get captured by the pirates. They're wined, dined, and she's given the captain's room to sleep in… where she falls asleep, which is totally not part of the plan.
• So Matt comes to get her—but Szpirglas realizes who they are and throws them into the hydrium pit.
• They escape using Kate's pants.
• They go back to rescue the Aurora.
• She helps Matt in his plans to save the ship.
