Hero's Journey
1. Ordinary World
Aladdin is just a poor orphaned street rat on the streets of Agrabah. How can he ever hope to be anything more?
2. Call To Adventure
When he spies a cute girl in trouble in the marketplace, Aladdin springs into action to help her. Hey, he just can't stand aside and watch someone's pretty hand get cut off, can he?
3. Refusal Of The Call
But, of course, the girl he falls madly in love with is the daughter of the Sultan. Aladdin's got no chance. What would a princess see in a street rat like him?
4. Meeting The Mentor
Ah, not true, says the old man in the dungeon. Even though this guy is a false mentor (the villainous Jafar in disguise), he gives Aladdin hope. If he can just get his hands on a little treasure, Aladdin thinks, maybe he can impress Jasmine and win her over. Hmm…
5. Crossing The Threshold
Aladdin steps into the Cave of Wonders with Abu to retrieve this magical lamp. Things don't go as planned.
6. Tests, Allies, Enemies
Inside the cave, Aladdin's resolve is tested. So is Abu's ability to follow instructions (seriously, don't touch the treasure, Abu). Aladdin and Abu find new allies in Carpet and the Genie. They also discover who their enemies are. That old man, for example, wasn't very nice.
7. Approach To The Inmost Cave
Once Aladdin is safety back in Agrabah, he uses his first wish and asks the Genie to turn him into a prince. Now he's able to approach another closely guarded cave—the Sultan's palace—in style. He succeeds in winning Jasmine's love and foiling Jafar's evil schemes. Time to call it a day, right?
8. Ordeal
Nope. It's time for more trials and tribulations. When Jafar gets his hands on the lamp, Aladdin has to face the bad guy on his own. Now he's got to survive by his wits alone, without any help from his friends. Luckily, Aladdin is able to trick Jafar into wishing himself into becoming a genie. Nice move, hero.
9. Reward (Seizing The Sword)
Everything has returned to normal. Jasmine confesses her love for Aladdin, but they still can't be together. Stupid laws.
10. The Road Back
The Genie tells Aladdin that he's still got one wish left. Sure, he promised to use it to free the Genie, but it's totally okay if he uses it to make himself into a prince again. No biggie.
11. Resurrection
But Aladdin decides he can't keep lying about who he is anymore. He's just gotta be him. Aladdin uses his final wish to set the Genie free.
12. Return With The Elixir
The Sultan remembers that he's in charge around here and changes the law so that his daughter can marry anyone she chooses. Aladdin and Jasmine are married, and everyone lives happily ever after. Except Jafar. But that guy's a jerk, anyway.
