Time to let the light shine. The lamplight, that is.

Right off the bat, we get to see the magical lamp we're talking about. The Peddler pulls it out to give us a peek:

PEDDLER: I can see that you're only interested in the exceptionally rare. I think then, you would be most rewarded to consider this. Do not be fooled by its commonplace appearance. Like so many things, it is not what is outside, but what is inside that counts. This is no ordinary lamp! It once changed the course of a young man's life. A young man who like this lamp was more than what he seemed. A diamond in the rough.

Okay, so the lamp is small and gold and kind of dingy looking. Even Aladdin can't believe that he's got to go through all this trouble trekking through the Cave of Wonders just to get that "beat-up, worthless piece of junk." Seriously, couldn't the old man just check on Craigslist for used lamps?

Of course, there's more to this lamp than meets the eye. Otherwise, Jafar wouldn't be working for years to get his greedy hands on it. This lamp may look boring and ordinary, but it has an extraordinary power.

Hey, it's kind of like Aladdin. You've just gotta squint a little to see the light—and the possibility for magic and adventure inside. Both Aladdin and the lamp are books you shouldn't judge by their covers.

Maybe that's why the Cave of Wonders is so darn picky about who it lets inside to find the lamp. Only someone worthy to use the lamp can put their hands on it. Someone whose true value lies within? Someone who won't grab mountains of treasure? That's a tough person to find. Only Aladdin fits the bill, which is why he and the lamp seem to be made for each other.
