Bart

For starters, we know Bart is our hero because he's the only dude in the movie who always seems to understand what's going on. He also likes to help us out now and then by turning directly to us and explaining what's happening. Plus he's the victim of constant racism and the only person who's willing to do something about Hedley Lamarr's evil scheme to destroy the town of Rock Ridge.

And in case we're confused about our protagonist, Mel Brooks uses almost every cliché in the book to hit us over the head with the fact that Bart is the platonic ideal of a "good guy."
