Gemma and Gitl

Okay, this is another one that's a wee bit confusing. First things first: Gemma and Gitl are the same person. (Did we just blow your mind? We hope not, 'cause that was sort of a major plot point.)

Long story short, Gemma had a secret past: during the war, before she came to the U.S., she was known as Gitl. Becca spends most of the story comparing and contrasting the Gemma she knew to the Gitl she researches in Poland.
