Chester Nez

Chester is not only the narrator of the novel, but he's also the protagonist. Why is he the protagonist? Well, because he's at the center of the book's action at all times. He joins up with the Marines, he helps develop the secret Navajo code, and he goes off and kicks butt in the Pacific.

This is his story, and we get to be up close and personal with Chester Nez at all times.
