Character Analysis
Sophie is Cécile's friend from the convent and, for a time, her confidante. Sophie still lives at the convent and, from what we can tell from Cécile's letters to her, she doesn't approve of her flirtations with the Chevalier Danceny. She eventually gets replaced in Cécile's confidence by the Marquise, especially once she gets involved with Valmont's sexual escapades.
