- We first meet Arthur when he befriends Una and helps her save Redcrosse from the giant Orgoglio.
- He then helps them defeat Duessa and explains his life-story, especially his love for the Faerie Queene.

- We next encounter Arthur when he rushes to help Guyon fighting Pinochles and Cymochles, and eventually, Arthur kills both of them.
- Then the two of them head to Alma's castle, killing the knights of Malegar before entering, and spend some quality time with Alma and her household.
- There, Arthur leans about his role in British history.
- He and Guyon soon must defend Alma's castle against the attack of Malegar and more troops, during which Arthur is injured and saved by his squire, Timias, and then drowns Malegar.
- After resting at Alma's castle, he heads out on a various adventures with Guyon until they run into Britomart, whom Guyon wants to fight.
- Arthur finally reconciles the two of them and soon goes off on his own path in pursuit of the beautiful Florimell.

- In order to free Amyas, Arthur uses the corpse of Corflambo as a trick to get them into his castle, where he frees Amyas and arranges a marriage between a repentant Poeana and Placidas.
- Arthur next pops up when he meets Artegall and the two of them save Samient from some pagan knights.
- They then agree to help her and her queen, Mercilla, by slaying the Souldan, and along the way to visit Mercilla, they kill Malengin.
- Once they reach the court of Mercilla, they witness the trial of Duessa and Arthur agrees to help Belge defeat the tyrant Geryoneo.
- He successfully kills Geryoneo and his monster and then heads off, eventually running into his old squire Timias and helping him defeat Despetto, Defetto, and Decetto.
- They bump into Serena and the Savage Man, and Arthur leaves Timias and Serena with the Hermit so that they can recover from their wounds.
- He and the Savage Man then come across Turpine, whom Arthur defeats, but Turpine soon plots further against Arthur while dinning with Turpine's wife Blandina in their home.
- Turpine deceives two knights into killing Arthur, one whom Arthur then kills and the other whom Arthur forgives.
- Fed-up with Turpine, he ties Turpine upside down on a tree and heads off with the other knight, named Enias.
- He and Enias run into Mirabella, Scorn, and Disdain who have taken Timias prisoner.
- Arthur releases Timias and then heads off to pursue another quest for the Faerie Queene.
