The Fellowship of the Ring Scene 18 Summary

  • Frodo isn't doing so hot… but luckily Arwen, an elf, comes to the rescue.
  • Strider worries about her riding alone with the Nazgûl afoot, but she insists she take Frodo to Rivendell as she is the faster rider.
  • She takes off but it's not long before the Nazgûl are hot on her trail. She outruns and outmaneuvers them until she reaches a river, before which they halt.
  • After some deliberation they draw their swords and try to cross it (it's not very deep).
  • But just as they do, Arwen calls forth a raging torrent of water horses, which sweep down the river and drown the Nazgûl.
  • Frodo isn't getting any better. Arwen holds him as the screen fades to white and Elrond's face briefly appears, saying something in Elvish.
