- Even though Mrs. Tashian tells her to take it easy, Seta insists on being helpful; she dusts and cleans to earn her keep.
- One night, Seta confides in Vahan that she plans to name the baby Krikor, after her dad. How does she know it will be a boy? She just does, she tells him.
- She feels the baby kick and shows Vahan what it feels like—he's totally amazed.
- When Seta begins labor, Mrs. Tashian helps her and comforts her; it's a long process, but Vahan finally hears the roar of her screams as she pushes the baby out. It's a boy. Yay.
- Later that night, Vahan is finally allowed to see Seta. She thinks her baby is ugly, but Vahan reassures her that all babies look like that.
- He holds Seta's hand as she goes to sleep, and everything is how he imagined it would be—the next day though, Seta has a fever and needs a lot of rest.
- Vahan remembers his brother's fever and asks Dr. Tashian if she's going die; he doesn't answer at first, but then admits he can't do anything to help her.
- A week later, Seta dies. Vahan is heartbroken, but more so when two men from the consulate come to take away the baby.
- The Tashians offer to raise the kid, but the consul sends him to one of his sisters in Germany.
