Forgotten Fire Chapter 28 Summary

  • For the next two months, Vahan sees Seta almost every day. They become close friends, and Vahan thinks she's the kind of friend he could only imagine a little while ago.
  • One day he tells her a secret: He thinks she's pretty. After she teases him for a bit, he tells her she's his best friend.
  • Sometimes Seta is really down in the dumps—Vahan's asked her about it, and she just says she's sad today.
  • She thinks Armenians have rotten luck. Even if they are lucky enough to escape or not get taken prisoner, they have to "die every night" to survive. This seems like a reference to the consul taking advantage of her.
  • Sure enough, soon Seta's body starts to fill out—Vahan just thinks she's getting rounder as she grows up, but he quickly figures out that she's pregnant.
  • He works up the courage to ask Dr. Tashian if he's ever seen her at the consulate, but he hasn't.
  • The consul—not wanting a baby—throws Seta out for getting pregnant. She's got nowhere to go though, and no friends except for Vahan.
  • He tells her the doc and his wife will let her stay there, even though he's not sure it's true.
  • She wishes the baby was Vahan's, and then they could run away together—she tells Vahan that she loves him, but he thinks she looks really tired and needs some rest.
  • The next morning, Vahan tries to tell Dr. Tashian about Seta, but before he can, Mrs. Tashian wakes up and asks Vahan if he would like some breakfast.
  • Then she sees Seta and tells her that she and the doc would love her to stay with them.
