From the Earth to the Moon Chapter 21 Summary

How a Frenchman Settles an Affair of Honor

  • That morning, Maston rushes to Ardan's room to tell him about the duel. Being a lover and not a fighter, Ardan rushes to the forest with Maston to put a stop to it.
  • They hurry into the woods. First, they find Captain Nicholl, but he's too busy saving a poor pigeon "caught in the web" (21.43) of a spider to worry about Barbicane. Aw.
  • They spend another half-hour searching for Barbicane, until they finally find him sitting under a tree working on calculations for the launch. For real?
  • These guys clearly don't have the killer instinct. Ardan proposes a unique solution to their beef: The two of them should join him on his lunar journey. They agree.
