- Zero visits a very bruised Gustave, who got in a fight to earn his inmates' respect. Apparently it worked.
- Zero met with Kovacs, who says Serge fled the country after reportedly witnessing Gustave entering Madame D.'s home the night before she was found dead of strychnine poisoning.
- Gustave cannot believe Serge would do this to him and thinks he was put up to it.
- He tells Zero that he does have an alibi for that night, but unfortunately she's married to the Duke of Westphalia, and he can't bring her into this.
