Fandoms

Well, we're guessing there's a pretty solid fanbase, given that there's a whole wiki devoted to Independence Day trivia. That's how you know you've made it big.

And we're not surprised—as we mentioned in the "Introduction," the film banked over $300 million in the U.S. That's a lot of (fan) butts in seats. It's a staple on the basic cable lineup, so that definitely suggests that a largish group of people are totally willing to tune in and enjoy the journey (minus some swearing) all over again.

And again. And again. And again on the 4th of July.

And of course, we know the movie is pretty popular because they're making another one. You don't plan on a sequel if you don't have a pretty loyal fan base, right? The fandom is probably going to be pretty peeved that megastar Will Smith is missing out, though. After all, Independence Day is what helped Will become a megastar.

Given the importance of Smith's good captain to the original, you'd think the filmmakers could have waited until Smith was available. (Can you tell we're sad?) (Source)

One cast member who didn't rocket to superstardom from the film is Bill Pullman, but even he has attracted a certain amount of ongoing fan attention for his "sexy" presidential portrayal. Hmm, we guess he did have a kind of appealing Christian Bale-as-Batman voice thing going on, now that we think of it. (Source)

The big Pullman-related excitement heading into the new film? President Whitmore's "big sexy beard." Poor Pullman just can't shake his sexy president persona. (Source)
