Wait a second, you say—Hannah's not evil. She's not maniacal or demonic or plotting Taylor's downfall. And you're right… sort of. Hannah may not be your poster child for a "bad guy," but whether she realizes it or not, she's keeping Taylor, our protagonist, from getting what she wants—and that's a classic antagonist for you.

By not telling Taylor the truth about her family history and disappearing without warning, Hannah only worsens Taylor's feelings of disconnection. She has the knowledge Taylor needs, but refuses to give it to her—not because she's a meanie, but because she genuinely feels she's doing the right thing.
