Is it just us, or is it a little weird that scientists named these companion underwater exploration machines after Jason and Medea—it’s not like those two got along particularly well toward the end.

The Medea Hypothesis is a theory by paleontologist Paul Ward, which says that Mother Earth’s history of mass extinctions is proof that she’s out to kill us all. (Yikes.)
