Antagonist
Character Role Analysis
Gerry
The head of the gestalt after Lone's death is one nasty villain—he'd give Ursula and Cruella a run for their money. Usually, protagonists drive the action in stories, but not always. This antagonist definitely controls the story; he's just too mean-spirited to be the protagonist. Gerry moves the gestalt from the shelter to Miss Kew's house and then defends it by murdering her. He torments Hip in another misguided quest for self-preservation. He finally recognizes he's not that much different from Hip, who also wanted to prove his superiority. The recognition allows him to accept Hip's ethical philosophy and guide his gestalt into the Homo Gestalt society. We accept you, one of us.
