When Valancourt marches out of the woods like the rugged hunter he is, we can see a love match for Emily from a mile away. But Valancourt isn't your typical romantic interest. He may be generous, kind, and valiant, but what happens in Paris apparently doesn't stay in Paris. Try Vegas next time, buddy.

Valancourt isn't prudent with his cash, making him not an ideal boyfriend for Em until later in the book. By the time Valancourt finally gets it together, Em's got her own cash flow going on. And hey, Valancourt is the perfect guy for an independent woman.
