Rose's Journey
- Rose gets off the train at Katoomba and immediately begins her search for Stan, whose last name she doesn't know.
- She's banking on what Jessaline told her about Pop being known far and wide for his loathsome personality. A lady with freckles gives her directions.
- On the way, she thinks about her reasons for coming. She used to be afraid that Clara was lonely, the way she was after her parents died, but obviously, that's not true.
- Rose thinks about her parents, and how as they drowned, they probably thought about their daughter and what would become of her, wanting her to be brave.
- Rose agrees to have courage for them as she goes to see what Clara's life has become.
