Parents

There are helicopter parents, and then there are the Kanes, Carrutherses, and Sykeses. (The latter two sound weird, but they're actually the plural forms. Thanks, English language.) The Kanes want Andre to be a businessman, Mrs. Carruthers wants Kendra to be a pageant winner and supermodel, and the Sykeses (sheesh) want Cara and Conner to go to Stanford. No pressure, right? Wrong.

Cara and Andre are regularly beaten with the college hammer, while Kendra's mom thinks she can treat an eating disorder at home. Sean's Uncle Jeff, his surrogate parent, practically drags the scouts to Sean's baseball games, and Andre keeps the thing he loves most in the world a total secret from his folks. Everywhere you look in Perfect, parents are pretty epically in the way.
