Character Role Analysis
Ken Dietz
Ken Dietz may be an annoying dad who's into New Age gibberish, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't know what's best for Vera. Ken's had a hard life, and he doesn't want Vera to struggle in the same ways he has, and because of this, he keeps a close eye on her, making sure that she works hard and doesn't fool around so that she can have a good shot at a bright future. He also is protective and doesn't want Vera to start drinking because he's a recovering alcoholic himself.
Even though Vera may find her dad overbearing and obnoxious, he's always there for her—and in the end, he's the person she leans on to find her way out of the darkness. Considering Charlie's situation, we'd say Vera's a pretty lucky kid.
