Vera Dietz

Vera Dietz is the obvious protagonist in Please Ignore Vera Dietz, and not just because the book is named after her. She's the heart of the story and the one who's trying to work through her feelings about Charlie's death and eventually clear his name. As Vera goes through her last year of high school and slowly pieces together the facts about the night Charlie died—kind of like an alcoholic, brooding Nancy Drew—the entire story comes together. And while Charlie's a major player, when Vera gets her happy ending, there's no confusion about whose story this is.
