Karl

Some people call Karl the main character, but we call Karl our protagonist. He's a simple man struggling to do the right thing in a complicated world. His conflict is more of an internal one than an external one: he must figure out what is right, and whether or not the consequences are worth it. And for Karl, the consequences don't involve just going back to the mental hospital—where he wants to be. He wonders about whether or not his soul will go to Hades.
