Character Analysis
Mrs. McCave
This is a woman who names all twenty-three of her sons Dave. Maybe she's lazy. Although she did have twenty-three kids, so we're guessing that's not the case. Maybe she just likes the name—we sure do. Either way, she probably should have thought a bit harder before naming those boys. Every time she calls for one, all twenty-three come barging into the house.
The lesson we can learn from Mrs. McCave is simple: think ahead, especially when naming children. Remember, it's not just them who will be stuck with the name forever.
Interesting side note: we hear nothing about the other half of the McCave parenting team. One assumes they're working their fourth job to pay for the inevitable college tuition.
The 23 Daves
The 23 Daves may all look the same, but they are not the same person. Each one is shown playing at a different activity, which suggests they all have different personalities. And the names Mrs. McCave wishes she'd given them imply very different characters, too. Let's face it: there's no way people named Stinky, Marvin O'Gravel Balloon Face, and Sir Michael Carmichael Zutt would all have the same personality.
Those names are Seuss at his best, don't you think?
